![]() Performance experience is available for those who qualify for the Recreation Dance Company. Only registered members in 2nd grade or older of the Dance Conservatory will be allowed to register for the Company. Please note - in order to participate in the Dance Company, you must first register for classes in the Dance Conservatory. Each class will concentrate on one or two techniques, alternating each week. The class is usually conducted in bare feet, or contemporary slippers to modern music.ĭescription: Starting at the barre, warm up consists of foot work learning the varied steps, sounds and rhythms which then leads to center work and progressions across the floor using upbeat music.ĭescription: Starting with a center warm up that emphasizes body isolations and stretches, this class leads to work in the center, as well as progressions across the floor using contemporary music.Ĭombo Classes - Creative Combo, Ballet/Tap, Ballet/Hip Hop, Ballet/Jazz -ĭescription: This class is a shortened version of each concentration of dance to hold the attention of the younger students.Īdult Dance Combo- A 10 week class for adults which will include various techniques including Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz. Watching them cheer, hug and beam with pride at the awards ceremony makes it all worth it. “The students continued to work hard after their spring concert to bring their performance to the next level and that they did!” described band director Ms. When reminiscing about the day, student Elsie Ross said, “My most memorable moment was receiving the awards at the park and hearing the positive comments from the judges in class the next day.” Student Colleen Irwin added, “It was a day packed with fun!” The eighth grade band earned the highest average score of the day with a 96.25, followed closely behind by the late night jazz ensemble who earned a 95.5.įollowing the performances, the students traveled to Six Flags where they enjoyed an afternoon in the park and attended the awards ceremony. Garden City earned two of the only three coveted Superior ratings given that day. The two ensembles each performed for 25 minutes and were evaluated on elements such as tone, technique, musicianship and overall performance. On May 6, Garden City Middle School students traveled to Westfield State University in Massachusetts where they performed for highly esteemed judges and competed against various school districts from throughout the northeast. ![]() Additionally, guitarist Ethan Wu won the Best Overall Jazz Soloist medal.
